Narendra Damodardas Modi is the 14th Prime Minister of India,

Who led the Bharatiya Janata Party to impressive victories in 2014 and again in 2019 and 2024.

An interesting fact about Modi is that he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the first time as an MLA. Similarly, he became the Prime Minister of India directly as an MP for the first time.

 Modi is credited for BJP’s majority victory in 2014, the first time since 1984.

Modi was born in a Gujarati family in Vadnagar, in his childhood he used to help his father in selling tea and later also ran his own tea stall.

Modi came in contact with RSS at the age of 8 and from here began a long association with the organization.

He joined BJP in the year 1985. His political journey gained momentum when he was elected the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

PM Modi's childhood

Since childhood, he was very fond of acting, debating competitions and plays, by being a part of which he has won many awards. During his schooling, PM Modi was also a part of the NCC cadets. After this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also done a 3-month course related to management and public relations in the US.

PM Modi’s father had a tea stall at the Vadnagar railway station, where Modi also used to go to help his father. That is why even today people call him the Prime Minister with tea. During this time, he served tea to Indian soldiers passing through the station during the Indo-Pak war in 1965 and he had thought that he would grow up to be a part of the Indian Army to serve the country.

At the age of 8, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In 1970, at the age of 20, he was so influenced by the RSS that he became a full-fledged RSS pracharak and in 1971, Modi formally joined the RSS.

Political events

On May 30, 2019, Narendra Modi again took oath as Prime Minister and expanded the cabinet on May 31.

Apart from the PMO, the Department of Atomic Energy, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the Department of Space and all the ministries not allocated to any other minister were kept with him.

On 23 May 2019, Narendra Modi was once again elected as the Member of Parliament from Varanasi. He defeated Congress leader Ajay Rai from Varanasi in the Lok Sabha elections. With this victory, he was again elected as the Prime Minister of India.

2014 Narendra Modi was elected as the 14th and current Prime Minister of India. Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014.

He became the first Prime Minister born after India’s independence from the British Empire.

Modi was re-elected from Maninagar in 2012. This time he defeated Bhatt Shweta Sanjeev by 34097 votes.

He again took oath for the fourth term as Chief Minister.

He later resigned from the Assembly in 2014.

2007 On 23 December 2007, Modi’s third term as Chief Minister began and was completed on 20 December 2012.

This time, he won from Maninagar. He defeated Dinsha Patel of Congress.
2002

In 2002, he contested from Maninagar and won handsomely. He defeated Ojha Yatinbhai Narendra Kumar of Congress by 38256 votes. He was also elected for the second innings as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

2001 Keshubhai Patel’s health deteriorated and the BJP lost some state assembly seats in by-elections.

The BJP has replaced Patel with Modi as the chief minister of Gujarat.

On 7 October 2001, Modi took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

On 24 February 2002, he won the by-election in Rajkot-II constituency. He defeated Congress’s Ashwin Mehta by 14,728 votes. This was his first and very short tenure.

In 1995, he was elected the national secretary of the BJP and moved to New Delhi. He led the election campaign in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Modi was promoted as general secretary (organisation) of the BJP in 1996.

1990 Modi helped organise LK Advani’s Ram Rath Yatra in 1990 and Murli Manohar Joshi’s Ekta Yatra in 1991.

In 1987, Modi was elected as the organising secretary of the BJP’s Gujarat unit.

After LK Advani in 1986, Modi became the president of the BJP. At that time, the RSS decided to place its members in important positions within the BJP.

1985: RSS hands over Modi to BJP. Later in 1987, Modi helped organise the BJP’s campaign in the Ahmedabad municipal elections, and the BJP won the elections.

In 1979, he became an RSS Division Pracharak. He was associated with RSS activities in Surat and Vadodara.
He went to work for the RSS in Delhi. where he was hired to research and write the RSS’s version of the history of the Emergency.

He became a divisional pracharak of the RSS in 1978. He actively participated in the RSS programmes held in Surat and Vadodara.

1975: Narendra Modi was appointed general secretary of the Gujarat Lok Sangh Samiti by the RSS. During the Emergency, Modi was forced to go underground to avoid arrest. He was involved in the printing of pamphlets opposing the government.

1967 He completed his higher secondary education in Vadnagar. He had left his home due to family disputes. Modi spent nearly two years travelling across northern and north-eastern India.

In the 1960s, Modi helped his father sell tea at the Vadnagar railway station. Later, he started running a tea stall with his brother near the bus stand.
